Peter Crossley joined the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology in 1991 as a Lecturer and was later promoted to Senior Lecturer and Reader. In 2002, he moved to Queen's University of Belfast where he was Professor of Electrical Engineering and Director of the Power & Energy Research Cluster. In 2006, he returned to The University of Manchester as Professor of Power Systems in the EEE School and in 2008 became Director of the Joule Centre. Before moving to academia he was a Senior Technical Engineer and Manager of the Research & Long Term Development Group at GEC Measurements (now Areva T&D). His industrial and academic career has mainly involved education, research, design and development in electrical power engineering and renewable energy systems.

Tim joined the University of Manchester in October 2006 after two years of interdisciplinary research concerning the performance and economics of marine energy converters. This followed completion of a DPhil in the Ocean Engineering Dynamics group at Oxford University where he developed an interest in both vortex- and wave-induced forces. His research work has involved collaboration across disciplines and institutions and draws on both experimental testing and numerical analysis.

Melanie joined the Joule Centre in July 2006, having worked in the energy field for 25 years. Her career started with GEC Turbine Generators Ltd as a sponsored student apprentice and over the next 20 years developed in power station design and engineering project management. Her final position in industry was Head of Department, Mechanical Systems, Chemistry & Environment within Alstom UK Power Plant Engineering. Having developed an interest in the wider aspects of energy while completing an MA in Energy Studies at the University of Sheffield, Melanie joined an Energy Efficiency Advice Centre in 2003, where she was the Centre Manager. She is an Associate Member of the IMechE.

Laura joined the Joule Centre in May 2006. Before this she worked for the Ramblers Association and for the Rural Development Services of DEFRA. This followed completion of a BSc in Environment, Ecology and Economics at the University of York.

Susan joined the Joule Centre in Sept 2008.In 2006 Susan completed her PhD in the field of political psychology which she applied to Northern Ireland. Her varied career has also included working in Japan and Greece as a teacher.

Over his varied career, Mr Healey has worked for the National Grid, Florida Power and Light in the United States, and EON Germany.He is also the founder of Smart Grid Solutions, which undertakes development of new-generation power distribution management solutions and applications. Notably, in 2006, he led a project that brought together the Technical University of Athens and the Public Power Corporation of Greece to deploy a prototype powerline communications management system to remotely control dispersed rural irrigation systems.

Mellik studied for an MSc in Business and Project Management at the University of Manchester and worked as a Research Assistant for the Corridor Manchester partnership. This followed the completion of a BEng in Systems Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

Agnes completed an MPhys at the University of Manchester, with a fourth year project on climate change adaptation. She has worked with several voluntary organizations, including Abundance Manchester and Action for Sustainable Living.
