Scientists at the US Department of Energy have developed transparent thin films which could be used to convert windows into solar cells. Developing a material which enables windows to generate solar power would significantly increase the amount of energy that could be potentially generated this way. These films were created using the deposition method which only uses small amounts of solar material so the films should also be cost effective.
