Duties of the Joule Centre Board of Governors

The duties of the Board of Governors are:-

  • To advise the host institution regarding the orderly and effective management of the Joule Centre and the Forum, and to discharge the following duties and responsibilities:
  • To review the procedures of the Host Institution to ensure that all funds received from the NWDA and others are spent in pursuit of the goals of the Joule Centre and are fully accounted for,
  • To review the procedures of the Host Institution to ensure the full due diligence of monies received and disbursed by the Joule Centre and cost transparency,
  • Promotion of the Joule Forum and encouraging appropriate organisations and individuals to become members,
  • To arrange, including inviting guest speakers and arranging venues, a minimum of 2 meetings of the Joule Forum in each calendar year,
  • To encourage and endorse the submission of collaborative research proposals, involving members of the Forum, to third parties such as the Department of Trade and Industry, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the European Commission,
  • To make recommendations to the Host Institution regarding the award of grants for research and development related to energy to researchers in the North West,
  • To receive and to make recommendations to the Host institution in respect of the approval of reports received from the researchers who are awarded grants by the Joule Centre,
  • To promote the Joule Centre through public engagement,
  • To liaise with the Host Institution on matters pertaining to the operation of the Joule Centre,
  • To endorse the arrangements for the Annual General Meeting.
